I know, I've been in touch with Mike at Libsyn a few times. I've also submitted the request via the iTunes REPORT A CONCERN feature. According to Libsyn, iTunes is being unusually non-responsive right now. They also seem to be having issues with images for the feeds with a lot of users. I just hope it's not turning away people who want to hear the shows!

Thanks, Dwight! Glad I could build in a surprise. Lydia's a regular for the rest of series three, I think. I have definite plans for her. And there's more coming. I've got the novel almost completely plotted, and plan to have two chapters (at least) by Memorial Day and Balticon.

It's so cool that you went back and finished, thank you! You seem to have a pretty good handle on where I'm taking Metcalfe, yes. He's testing his childhood beliefs against the big bad universe, and learning what his personal truths are. The Jesus story wasn't meant to convert Marlis to Christianity (Metcalfe is not a Christian), it was more about him holding onto his individuality by telling a powerful story from his youth. And that's pretty much my message -- tell your story and let people hear it.

Steve, Thanks for your response! I'll agree especially with Peace Lords, the overriding enlightenment of the main character wouldn't be approved of in "standard" Christian culture. As for Metcalfe, perhaps he could mature and develop a lighter touch as he continues to become more culturally broad? Will his soul perhaps experience the inner prejudice that some others see of his backworld upbringing and backworld religion? Might a number of characters experience a religionswap for a period that might simultaneously expand their understandings and impact their own?

Regardless, thank you again for writing and prompting me to spin up the old ipod and finish the episodes!

Steve, thanks for your honest feedback. Of course I'm sorry you didn't enjoy this latest segment. I must say, though, how ironic it is to me that both this show and Peace Lord have turned people off because of what they perceived as a strong Christian message, when I believe that the majority of Christians would find these works to be outright blasphemy. In this episode, Metcalfe suggests that the true message of Jesus is not that he saved us from our sins, but that he proved that we hold ownership in our own souls, a title which most organized religious believe is held by either Jehovah, the church, or both. As for Peace Lord, I don't think it's gonna be on the reading list at Liberty Baptist any time soon! Both works have their protagonists coming to the conclusion that sin -- the oil of organized religion -- is not what it's all about.

The good news is that most future stories will not contain such strong religious content. Although the next novel I'm working on does wrestle a lot with Metcalfe's faith, it's a lot more a story about peace and violence than a religious homily. The fact is that Metcalfe's a deeply religious person, and he's at an age where he's really thinking a lot about his beliefs. Similarly, an episode focusing on Faulkner that I have in planning will delve into her Pagan beliefs, and Cernaq and Pallas's personal philosophies will come to light as well. I hope those future stories will work better for you.

Steve -- In the past I have truly enjoyed your broadcasts. They capture the sheer joy of space opera and light dramatic theatre.

However, I have noticed a trend in recent series (Mars, Arbiter: The Wild Hunt) towards including a strong Christian message. Especially in Hunt, it has reached a prosthelyzing level. In fact, after a few of Metcalfe's monologues about the baby Jesus and all that is holy, I had to turn it off! I'm going to miss the resolution to Hunt, but the mixing in of the strong Christian message was far too heavy-handed and it got to the point where the episodes were more pain than pleasure.

I won't inquire as to whether these are being presented in-character or whether they are a reflection of external beliefs being injected into the script. That is not relevant. But I'm hoping, in the future, you will be able to tone down Metcalfe's (and others') strong religious messages in favor of what you have been doing so well: combining plot, character, and presentation into a strongly enjoyable form.

Thanks for listening,
