Cast Activities

From Balticon: A New Arbiters Short!

The Balticon Podcast has reached its 100th episode!  And. to celebrate, Paul asked for fiction from the first ten podcasters to ever attend a podcasting track at an SFCon anywhere, anywhen, at Balticon 40.  Since Steve Wilson was among those ten, Prometheus was asked for an entry; and how better to celebrate the 100th podcast from such a grand old SF con than with a special Arbiter Chronicles episode, featuring the entire cast?

So here it is, The Arbiters do Balticon! You’ll also hear some wonderful pieces by Jared Blackwell, Mur Lafferty and Christiana Ellis!

Steve guests on Nobilis Erotica

Our friend Helen E. H. Madden wrote “When the Angels Fall,” a story about a young man who’s in love with his oppressive robot guardian angel, for the collection Coming Together: With Pride.  Steve did a reading of it for this week’s Nobilis Erotica podcast.

It being an erotica podcast, please consider yourself advised that the content is explicit.

Balticon!

Thanks to all of you who came out to see us at Balticon, both at the Farpoint table and at the Firebringer Presents panels and Steve’s reading.  And just to show it wasn’t all business, here’s a photo by our own Paul Balze of Steve moderating the “Naughty Mad Libs” panel, and struggling not-so-bravely through the results of a mad-libbed passage from Robert A. Heinlein’s I Will Fear No Evil. Sheila Dee looks on, amused, while Doc Coleman seeks refuge on the delightful shoulder of Laura Frechette.

A good (noun) was (verb)ed by (number).

Night Train through Maco on SOUND AFFECTS

This Sunday, November 21st at 9:30 PM CST, “Night Train through Maco” will be aired on Station KFAI, Minneapolis / St. Paul, FM 90.3 and 106.7 as part of the Sound Affects program.   Sound Affects is produced by our old friend Jerry Stearns, also the motive force behind the Mark Time and Ogle awards.  Listen on the air if you’re in the area, or via the web at http://www.kfai.org.

Many thanks to Jerry and KFAI, and we hope you’ll consider supporting their “Radio Without Boundaries” initiative.

Prometheus cast members in Baltimore Sun Balticon coverage

Ethan Wilson, Tim Van Blarcom, Sarah Hayman as Dr Horrible, Captain Hammer and Penny

Ethan Wilson, Tim Van Blarcom, Sarah Hayman as Dr Horrible, Captain Hammer and Penny

Two of our regulars, Ethan and Tim, plus friend Sarah, grabbed a nod for Best Lip-Syncing at last year’s Balticon Masquerade as they reenacted a scene from Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog. The photo was featured in the Baltimore Sun’s coverage of Balticon 44, which kicks off today.  Appropriately, the article showcases activities for young fans, and the chosen subjects are great examples of the benefits of welcoming young people into Fandom.  Ethan is a third-generation SFF fan.  Tim is second-generation.   Amidst busy high school and college schedules, both serve on the Farpoint committee and are often seen on the convention stage.  Ethan is also a veteran of many convention Masquerades and Art Shows, and has written for Prometheus.

Balticon schedule – Steven H. Wilson

I’ll be representing Prometheus and Firebringer at Balticon.  If you’re attending, catch up with me at these events:

Saturday, May 29

3:00 to 5:00 PM, Parlor 1041, Book Launch – Peace Lord of the Red Planet

6 PM, Chesapeake, Audio Theatre Today. Since the earliest days of radio, audio theater has engaged the imaginations of millions in a unique way. Though it never went away, the age of the internet has brought a new vibrance to the scene, withamateur productions popping up all over and professional groups finding new ways to reach people. From the retro to the experimental, this panel will discuss the state of audio theater productions today, where they came from, and where they are going.

9 PM, Derby Room, MODERATOR for Baltimore Fan Culture. Baltimore is one of the most nerd-friendly towns on the East Coast. New around here? We’ll talk about area events, hotspots, landmarks and all the great things you need to know. Fellow panelists are John Cmar, Laura Burns, and Bryan Prindiville.

Sunday, May 30

11 AM, Derby Room, MODERATOR for Storytelling. Be it sitting around the campfire, gossiping over the fence, or blogging and podcasting, we’ve always been up for hearing a new story, or passing on an old one. The Internet has given us a much bigger audience and helped to pull the focus off of the few who could afford to get into mass communication under the old TV and radio models. What is the continuous thread which New Media helps us to follow, and how might it better fulfill our longtime need to tell our stories? Fellow panelists are Patrick E. McLean, Heather Welliver, and Brad Smith.

2 PM, Maryland Foyer, David Sherman and Steven H. Wilson Autograph Session

3 PM, Salon D, Steven H Wilson Reading

Steve guests on “The Blowhard Experiment”

Aaron, Justin and Bluefist asked me to join them on their show this week.  We talked about the business of podcasting, audio and radio drama, BSG, Trek and Science Fiction at large.  I had a lot of fun.  It’s streaming, not downloadable.

Kathy Garver – The Family Affair Cookbook

Kathy Garver, Family Affair’s Cissy, Spiderman and Friends‘ Firestar, and a Prometheus Guest Star in The Arbiter Chronicles - “Adventure 354″, dropped us a postcard this week to announce her new cookbook (ISBN 1-59393-458-0) available at Amazon.com and KathyGarver.com.  Well, hey, we believe in promoting whatever our cast is doing, and Kathy is certainly an honorary member of the troupe!

A very special Arbiters…

Nope, no one uses drugs, but Kaya does some creative work with vegetables.  If you don’t like explicit material, don’t follow this link.  If you’re up for an Arbiters short which has no excuse for existence other than Steve wanting to prove he could really write porn (not just be accused of producing it by accident!), have a listen to “Daddy Detests Salmon Mousse,” as hosted by Nobilis Erotica.  Not work safe! No way, no how! You’ve been warned!
